Youth Service
Our Commitment to Youth
Achievement
An ongoing commitment to youth is a hallmark of our club. Every school year we coordinate with administration and faculty members at Potter Junior High School to honor Students of the Month, Each month a 7th grade and an 8th grade student are invited to one of our weekly luncheon meetings where they eat with us and are given an engraved Rotary Certificate of achievement for outstanding civic or scholastic achievements.
Scholarship
Our Scholarship Program provides opportunity for higher education for graduating seniors in the Fallbrook Union High School District. Each year one to three scholarships are awarded for University or Junior Colleges. Scholarships are awarded upon scholarship, civic achievement and financial need.
Interact Clubs
Rotary Interact Clubs, organized and sponsored by local Rotary Clubs, perform community service with membership open to youth ages 14-18: there are over 10,000 clubs in 118 countries around the world.
The Interact Club of Fallbrook Union High School District, sponsored by the Rotary Club of Fallbrook, is such a club with tremendous student interest and participation of about 100 students.
Fallbrook student Interact activities include:
- supporting the La Gloria Orphanage in Tijuana; working on the Rotary International float in Pasadena, CA in preparation for the Tournament of Roses Parade;
- visiting and assisting, sometimes daily after school, local skilled nursing homes; helping out at the Art Center in downtown Fallbrook;
- assisting the Rotary Club of Fallbrook in preparation for, during the event, and clean-up of the annual major fund raiser “Lobster On The Green”;
- working alongside Rotarians during the April “Rotarians At Work” day, a major community service effort which helps improve local venues, such as the Fallbrook Food Pantry, Boys and Girls Club of N County, Parks and Recreation and Fallbrook Art Campus.
Leadership
RYLA is the Rotary Youth Leadership Academy, a week-end experience in Idylwild to which we send two local high school Juniors each year.
Each year we hold a Rotary 4-Way Test Speech Contest at one of our weekly meetings from which we send two winners on to competition with students represented by other Rotary Clubs in San Diego County.
Community Financial Support
- We provide substantial ongoing financial support to The Boys and Girls Club of North County.
- Financial support is also given to many extracurricular school programs: Fallbrook High School Madrigals; Potter Junior High School Concert Choir; Live Oak School Choir; Kodaly School Music Program; Parents As Teachers serving Fallbrook elementary schools; and Fallbrook Music Society Music For Youth Program.
- We send two eighth grade students to a week-end camp at Palomar Mountain each year as part of Rotary LEADS, a Leadership, Education and Development experience.
- Under Rotary PEACE we send two high school students to a Rotary Model UN Forum at the USD Joan Kroc Institute for Peach and Justice.
- We provide financial support for Scouting within our community typically as part of individual efforts to attain merit badges for service projects.
- Each year we participate in Career Day at the local Junior and Senior High Schools by providing speakers for the student sessions. We also support a Speaker’s Corner at the high school.
