Volunteers needed to help sort food and stock shelves at the food pantry. If needed, there is plenty of sorting that can be done while sitting. Bring your family and friends to help out this great resource for our community! Enter the Food Pantry parking lot from Aviation Road, next to the animal sanctuary. |

The 1,000 Smiles Foundation is a non-profit organization focused on care of the less fortunate children in Mexico who suffer from lack of dental care and from maxillo-facial deformities such as cleft palate. Clinics are held each year in the months of February, May, August, and November. We are registered to help with crafts on Saturday, February 6th We need to do the following: · Register online as a volunteer for the February 6th Clinic - Crafts (Sign Up or login if you already have an account.) · Bring your Passport · Help bring games, and activity items for the children per below Activities for Patients/Arts and Crafts: This person takes the responsibility to provide small toys and/or craft projects for the children in the waiting area from about 9am until lunch time and then again in the afternoon, both on Friday and Saturday at the clinic. There are some crayons and paper kept at the clinic, but we are always in need of more. Coloring books are ok—but there needs to be enough for all the kids to use. Generally, expect to provide for 50 each day. The kids range in age from birth to teens. Games such as bingo or lottorea work pretty well. Paper lunch bags can be made into puppets, paper plates can become masks with eyeholes cut into them. Jump ropes are useful too. Face painting and nail polish are popular with the girls. String and beads can become necklaces or bracelets. Board games like Monopoly tend to not work well. It is helpful if you speak some Spanish, but not necessary. There are usually some teen volunteers to help with the crafts as well, and a person who will give tooth brushing and nutrition lessons sometime during the day. This job includes putting out trash bags from the warehouse and maintaining some order, sweeping up after crafts are finished, putting away crayons, toys, etc., after the kids are finished. Sometimes the parents will want to participate and that is always ok. For more information, see --> http://www.thousandsmiles.org

Sign Up online here, or with Allison. Literacy Fair this year! One of the great portions of Fallbrook A Leer (FAL) is the literacy faire where students and their families participate in various activities, arts, and crafts that focus on reading, writing, and community service. What does that mean? FAL is on Saturday, April 1st at Maie Ellis Elementary. The literacy faire is 90 minutes long, from 11:30-1:00. Each community group can sponsor a booth at the faire, which should have 1-2 adults to manage the table, but you will be provided 5-10 student volunteers to help run an activity. In addition, each organization is asked to provide 150 small crafts that can be completed in less than 15 minutes. Crafts can be any range of activities such as bookmarks, pencil holders, hand-made notebooks, water color paintings, etc. |
